When grazing or moving stock throughout NSW, graziers may utilise the network of Crown Land Travelling Stock Reserves (TSR). TSRs include corridor-type ‘stock routes’, as well as smaller, stand-alone Reserves. Many TSRs are also utilised during natural disasters and other emergencies as animal safe places.
 
The TSR network in NSW covers almost two million hectares, and Local Land Services is responsible for the care, control and management of about 30% of TSRs in NSW.

About the role

Our Travelling Stock Reserves Coordinator (Senior Land Service Officer) is responsible for co-ordinating the delivery of on-ground services, projects and activities for the management, care and maintenance of travelling stock reserves in the North Coast region. 

  • Evaluate and process Grazing and other Permits relating to TSR and roadside stock movements. Maintain awareness of TSR condition and ensure Permit-holders comply with terms of use
  • Initiate and support partnerships and collaborations with stakeholders, including First Nations peoples and their representative bodies such as Land Councils, Elders groups and Native Title holders
  • Manage and implement plans and projects ensuring that TSR are made available for appropriate access by the community. Promote awareness of TSR to relevant public and community sectors, including the emergency management function
  • Utilise your knowledge of livestock and pasture management, integrated weed management and natural resources    
  • Collect, collate and analyse data to provide accurate and balanced advice, reports and recommendations 
  • Manage budgets and reporting against performance indicators
  • Plan and implement programs to control weeds and maintain infrastructure including stockyards, watering points, structures, fire trails and fences
  • Manage contractors and/or field officers to perform works 
  • Provide advice regarding opportunities to create additional revenue generating activities 
  • Source and provide information relating to Aboriginal Land Claim Assessments
  • Ensure that TSR are maintained in readiness to support emergency management procedures during natural disaster events. 

About You

To be successful in this role you will have;

  • An ability to think strategically and understand risk as it applies to land management in our region
  • Effective administrative, project management, monitoring and evaluation skills
  • An ability to understand and interpret legislation and working knowledge of Crown Land management
  • A degree in agriculture, rural science or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • A willingness to undertake regular travel within the North Coast LLS region, including overnight trips
  • An understanding of rural landholder issues, livestock and plant health and current approaches to managing travelling stock reserves
  • The ability to problem-solve, manage contractors and field staff, and be comfortable speaking and negotiating with landholders, clients and stakeholders
  • Self-motivation, working independently and actively contributing to a supportive team environment
  • Strong computer/IT skills with experience in data collation and reporting
  • A current NSW Drivers Licence
  • Appropriate qualifications and knowledge relevant to pesticide application or the willingness to obtain them.
