Lead collaboration with the Agriculture and Biosecurity Executive Leadership team to drive a portfolio of critical policy areas which impact primary producers and communities across NSW, such as climate, drought response, soil and water.

About the role

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is seeking a Group Director Climate and Natural Resources to drive the provision of high level, strategic policy advice, supported by research, to the Deputy Secretary. As Group Director Climate and Natural Resources, you will inform evidence-based policy decision making processes, plan and prioritise, develop, and implement and evaluate policy initiatives to optimise alignment with Government's strategic policy objectives. The role works in close partnership with the Policy, Reform and Evidence Branch, leading key policy initiatives on behalf of the Department.

The Group Director is a member of the Agriculture and Biosecurity Group Executive Leadership Team, participating in strategic planning, decision making and research prioritisation processes at a Group level.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven leadership, technical expertise, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to critically analyse and interpret a breadth of issues to develop policy, programs and research directions
  • Thorough understanding and extensive experience in providing executive direction across climate change, drought and resource use issues.
  • Sound understanding of issues faced by the NSW regions, and an appreciation of the diversity of primary industries, producers and communities.

You will be someone who can:

  • Address new and emerging operational and policy issues and reform opportunities in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Manage competing or conflicting interests and positions across the key stakeholder groups require continual monitoring, analysis and response.
  • Navigate politically sensitive issues while balancing diverse stakeholder interests and managing competing priorities.
