About the role  

The Strategy and Regulatory Policy Division is responsible for leading the development of regulatory reform proposals, evaluating policies and regulatory effectiveness, and ensuring that regulatory reforms align with government's goals and priorities. This division will also establish and maintain effective governance frameworks across the whole department, including Local Land Services, ensuring compliance, transparency, and consistency in decision-making processes.  

The Executive Director Strategy & Regulatory Policy leads and directs the development of strategies and robust regulatory reforms geared towards positioning the Agriculture and Biosecurity Group to effectively respond to current and emerging issues throughout NSW. 

 

About You 

You are a proven leader with experience delivering high-level strategies, best practice regulation, and policies to drive biosecurity and animal welfare outcomes and support agricultural industries across NSW. You will provide expert advice to the Minister, Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Executive Directors on strategic and regulatory priorities, including major policy and program implications. 

The role requires a strong focus on engagement and collaboration across government, and with a broad range of stakeholders. You will support a strategic approach to best practice biosecurity and animal welfare regulation and research excellence by coordinating science strategy, ensuring the department continues to be recognised as a leader in primary industries knowledge and innovation. 

As a member of the Agriculture and Biosecurity Executive Leadership Team, you will contribute to Group-wide strategic planning and deliver strategic advice to the Deputy Secretary and Minister for Primary Industries. 

 

You will be able to: 

  • Operate in a change-environment and be proactive in planning to ensure strategic decision making is integrated with broader government objectives. 
  • Drive the implementation of change and strategic initiatives across the department to achieve elevated levels of ownership and compliance. 
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and operate within budgetary constraints. 
  • Support the Minister and Deputy Secretary in the development of the department’s reform agenda while simultaneously managing politically sensitive matters.
