About the Role
As a Senior Policy and Project Officer, you will lead and manage critical animal biosecurity projects, with a focus on Destruction, Disposal, and Disinfection. You will provide expert advice on animal health and zoonotic disease issues, collaborate with internal teams, industry stakeholders, and research partners, and contribute to state and national policy forums. This is an opportunity to influence policy, guide operational responses, and strengthen biosecurity across New South Wales.
Key responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Lead and manage EAD-focused DDD projects aligned with NSW DPIRD’s strategic and business plans.
- Develop rapid operational plans to support destruction, disposal, and disinfection during emergency responses.
- Provide high-level technical advice and solutions to emerging animal health and zoonotic disease issues.
- Prepare briefings, submissions, reports, Ministerial correspondence, and speeches.
- Represent DPIRD in state and national forums, advising on technical and strategic policy issues.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, negotiating and influencing to achieve desired outcomes.
- Participate in the EAD hotline on-call rotation.
The ideal candidate
- High-level knowledge and practical experience in Destruction, Disposal, and Disinfection (DDD).
- Strong project leadership skills with the ability to deliver results under pressure.
- Ability to rapidly develop operational plans to support emergency responses.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel and drive across NSW as required.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Agricultural, Animal, or Veterinary Science, or similar.
- Current NSW Driver Licence.
