About the Role
We’re seeking a dynamic Principal Project Officer to join our Forestry Policy team and bring applied industry experience to the heart of government policy development. This is a unique opportunity to influence major forestry policy initiatives, working closely with multi-disciplinary teams across the Department, and ensuring advice and recommendations are grounded in operational realities. Your insights into industry practices, regulatory challenges, and stakeholder expectations, will support the development of strategies that are practical, deliverable and impactful.

About You
In this role, you’ll lead a range of forestry projects and support effective ongoing engagement with key industry partners, with a focus on identifying emerging issues and implementation barriers and then supporting the co-design of practical solutions. We’re looking for someone with strong problem-solving skills, exceptional stakeholder engagement capability, and a proven ability to translate complex challenges into actionable solutions. As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in the forestry industry and strong knowledge of operational forestry issues and stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex and sensitive consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience managing projects and teams to deliver all key milestones and outcomes
