About the role

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is seeking a Director Extensive Livestock and Pastures to lead the NSW Department of Primary Industries and regional (DPIRD), research and Development and Adoption (RDA) program to support development and innovation in beef, sheep, goat and pasture production, aligning to the DPIRD strategic plan.

The role integrates leadership with strategic policy input and advice, ensuring that research and development (R&D) in extensive livestock and pastures is both targeted and evidence based. This position is pivotal in responding to emerging challenges and opportunities within the industry, delivering strategic guidance that fosters innovation and promotes the adoption of effective practices. By aligning R&D efforts with the needs of New South Wales (NSW) industries and communities, this role significantly contributes to the enhancement of the broader economy, ultimately driving sustainable growth and development within the sector.

About you

As the Director of Extensive Livestock and Pastures, you are committed to overseeing the successful establishment, co-investment, and completion of research and development initiatives that align with the NSW DPIRD Strategic Plan. Your leadership will guide the Extensive Livestock and Pastures Branch, ensuring alignment with government priorities and the industry's long-term sustainability needs. By prioritising and maintaining collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and research partners, including government agencies and research corporations, you will achieve the objectives of the branch and department. Your expertise in negotiating projects and securing funding will enhance contract management and foster a high-quality project and financial management culture among staff. Additionally, you are dedicated to ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety regulations while promoting an equitable, diverse, and inclusive working environment.
