About the Game and Pest Management Advisory Board
The Board‘s primary role is to advise the Minister for Agriculture (the Minister) and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (the Department) on important matters relating to hunting and game and pest animal management.

Up to eight members will be appointed to the Board, whose combined background, qualifications  and experience will provide a range of expertise to effectively represent the interests of licensed game hunters in matters arising under the Game and Feral Animal Control Act 2002.

The Board is independent from the Department, however administration support for Board activities is provided by the Department.

The functions of the Board are to:

  • Represent the interests of licensed game hunters in matters arising under the Game and Feral Animal Control Act 2002;
  • Provide advice on request to the Minister or the Regulatory Authority on game and feral animal control;
  • Provide advice on request to the Minister on priorities for expenditure on research from the Game and Pest Management Trust Fund; and
  • Provide advice to the Minister or the Regulatory Authority on educational courses relating to game hunting.

The Board will be appointed according to the NSW Government Boards and Committees Guidelines 2015. Candidates for the Board will need to demonstrate:

  • High-level demonstrated expertise, skill or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
    • game and feral animal hunting;
    • pest animal management, education and/or research;
    • wildlife management, education and/or research;
    • veterinary science and/or practice;
    • education;
    • community engagement.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning processes.
  • Knowledge of the workings of Government, especially the work of boards and committees and how they inform and impact upon policy.
  • The ability to formulate sound advice.
  • Well-developed communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience working with industry, government and other partners.
  • Knowledge of audit, reporting and risk management.
  • Skills in summarising information and arguments.
  • Sound communication and collaboration skills, and commitment to high ethical standards and teamwork.
  • Ability to travel to meetings or other engagements of the Board as required.
