About the Role
In your exciting new role as a Fisheries Tour Guide at Narrandera Fisheries Centre you will provide educative and administrative support services to support the operation of the John Lake Centre.
The John Lake Centre runs daily tours of aquarium and hatchery facilities showcasing the important work DPIRD Fisheries undertakes across the Murray Darling Basin to enhance and protect native freshwater fish. This hands-on role works closely with local schools, tour companies, not-for-profit organisations and the general public to deliver an immersive experience.
Narrandera Fisheries is the state’s premier inland freshwater research and hatchery centre boasting state-of-the-art facilities and aquaculture infrastructure.
The position is also required to assist in the preparation and delivery of children’s fishing workshops which are undertaken by the department.
About You
As our ideal candidate, you will have:
- Experience in developing and guiding educational tours to promote programs to a diverse audience.
- Experience in responding to enquiries, with the ability to escalate or redirect matters as required to ensure the delivery of accurate and timely information.
- An interest in the natural environment, specifically freshwater ecology and native fish of the Murray Darling Basin and basic fish husbandry (training provided).
- Knowledge of updating and maintaining records and databases in line with administrative systems and processes, ensuring information is accurate, securely stored, and easily accessible.
- Capability in maintaining and operating fish display tanks, as well as audio-visual and visual displays, to support educational tours and deliver engaging visitor experiences.
