About the Role
As a Policy Officer within NSW Resources, you will contribute to the development of strategic policy to support the safe and responsible development of the state’s minerals and petroleum resources with the vision of generating prosperity for the people of NSW. Your work will help shape policy initiatives, coordinate cross divisional input and ensure alignment with government priorities and commitments.
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Undertaking research and analysis to contribute to policy development
- Preparing briefing notes, submissions and advice to inform decision making
- Coordinating NSW Resources’ input to consultations on external agency Cabinet submissions, consultations and parliamentary inquiries
- Providing a range of project management and support services to contribute to the development and implementation of regulatory and legislative reform initiatives.
Working as part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), the role presents an opportunity to operate at the centre of complex and often sensitive issues, applying sound judgement and analytical capability to deliver practical, evidence-based policy outcomes that generate long term benefits for regional NSW.
About You
We are seeking a capable and motivated policy professional who is naturally collaborative but also able to work independently with limited supervision as required. You will have strong communication skills, being able to tailor communication to diverse audiences, explaining complex concepts clearly, and writing fluently in plain English. You will bring strong analytical skills, sound judgement and the confidence to contribute to policy discussions. You are adaptable and resilient, able to assimilate information quickly, manage competing priorities and deliver high quality advice under pressure.
As our ideal candidate, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience researching, analysing and developing policy advice or strategic programs for government or a complex organisation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear briefs, submissions and discussion papers for diverse audiences
- Proven ability to coordinate cross divisional input and manage stakeholder consultations effectively
- Sound project management and organisational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience relevant to the role
