About the Role
As an Inspector of Mines within NSW Resources, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the health and safety of people working across the NSW mining industry. Through site inspections, incident investigations and compliance activities, you will help ensure mine operators implement effective risk management and incident prevention strategies. Your work will directly contribute to strengthening safety performance across the sector while supporting the responsible development of the state’s valuable mineral resources.
Working across a diverse and evolving industry, you will engage with mine operators, workers and key stakeholders to promote best practice, provide expert advice and drive continuous improvement in safety systems. This role offers the opportunity to apply your technical expertise, exercise regulatory powers and influence positive change, while contributing to the Resources Regulator’s mission of ensuring safe and responsible mining operations across NSW.
About You
We are seeking a motivated and experienced professional who brings strong technical knowledge of mining operations and work health and safety practices, alongside the confidence to engage with industry and support high standards of compliance and safety performance.
As our ideal candidate, you will bring:
- Demonstrated knowledge of mining operations, technologies and work health and safety legislation
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical matters clearly for diverse stakeholders
- Proven ability to conduct inspections, assessments or investigations and prepare clear written reports
- Sound judgement and the confidence to apply regulatory powers, negotiate outcomes and influence compliance
- A commitment to integrity, professionalism and continuous learning in a dynamic regulatory environment
Essential Requirements
- Must possess and maintain the qualifications to be appointed as an inspector under section 18(2)(a) of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013, and in accordance with the Resources Regulator policy on qualifications of mine safety inspectors
- Must be able to work on weekends and backshifts and respond to incidents out of normal business hours on a rostered basis
- Hold and maintain a current Class C driver licence
- Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement
- Compliance with the Resources Regulator Integrity Clearance policy is mandatory, and a condition of engagement for staff engaged after 3 December 2019
- Compliance with the Resources Regulator Pecuniary Interests in the Regulated Sector policy is mandatory
- Appointment and ongoing assignment is subject to the satisfactory participation in ongoing health screening
