The salary offered to the successful candidate will be commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience, as outlined in the Crown Employees (Department of Industry) Technical Staff Award and the Technical Staff Merit Progression Guidelines.
About the Role
These roles support the Shark Program by carrying out operational procedures under the direction of the Fisheries Technical Coordinator (SMART drumlines and Tagged Shark Listening Stations)or Senior Manager(shark nets), ensuring strict adherence to experimental protocols and QA/QC requirements. Responsibilities include assisting with the purchasing, preparation and maintenance of fisheries and shark‑mitigation equipment, and accurately recording all data within required timeframes, including transferring information into departmental databases and retrieving data for analysis. The positions also contribute to scientific outputs by preparing graphs, figures and data summaries as needed. All activities must be conducted in full compliance with departmental plans and policies, including Animal Care and Ethics approvals, sampling notifications, Management Plans, Work Health and Safety procedures, biosecurity protocols and media guidelines.
About You
You are a detail‑focused and reliable technical professional who excels at following scientific procedures and maintaining strict compliance with QA/QC standards. You work confidently under direction, ensuring all tasks align with experimental protocols and program requirements. You bring strong practical skills in preparing, maintaining and organising fisheries and shark‑mitigation equipment, and you consistently record data with accuracy, completeness and timeliness. Your ability to manage databases, retrieve information for analysis and contribute to scientific outputs—such as graphs, figures and data summaries—supports high‑quality research outcomes. You are committed to operating safely and ethically, always adhering to departmental plans, Animal Care and Ethics approvals, WHS requirements, biosecurity protocols and other key policies. Your organised approach, scientific mindset and commitment to compliance make you a dependable and effective contributor to the Shark Program.
As our ideal candidate, you will have:
- Qualifications in a relevant field or equivalent industry experience
- Coxswains certificate or willingness and ability to obtain
- Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes
- Ability and willingness to work irregular hours and weekends
