About the role
The Biosecurity Officer delivers field and regulatory programs that protect regional biosecurity by managing animal and plant pests, supporting advisory services, and contributing to local, state, and national priorities.
We are looking for an individual who can:
- Maintain knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for pest animal management
- Support delivery of programs and advisory services in line with legislation, policies, procedures, and local/state priorities, including management of travelling stock reserves (TSRs)
- Assist with surveillance and investigations relating to animal and plant health and disease control
- Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement (MERI), and support post-response recovery programs
- Liaise with customers and stakeholders to support effective field activities and emergency preparedness, response and recovery
- Deliver projects that build customer capability in managing biosecurity issues
- Support compliance programs relating to biosecurity obligations, pest and disease management, and livestock and plant traceability
- Maintain accurate records and databases in line with policies and procedures
About You
To be successful in this role, our ideal candidate will have the following:
- Work comfortably as part of a team
- Able to work safely and conscientiously unsupervised
- Comfortable using day to day electronic communications, word processing, spread sheets and entering information into databases.
- Comfortable working outdoors in field-based environments
- Ability to work with mapping systems and spatial datasets (e.g. ArcGIS) is desirable
