About the role
NSW Public Works (NSW PW) is excited to offer an opportunity for an Archaeologist to join our Heritage, Environment and Planning (HEP) team. The role plays a critical part in delivering expert advice and specialist support to the team and its clients on matters relating to the management of Aboriginal and non‑Aboriginal cultural heritage and archaeology.
As an Archaeologist, you will support the Senior Archaeologist/Archaeologist within the HEP team by undertaking and contributing to Aboriginal cultural heritage assessments, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and statutory guidelines.
The role will also support non‑Aboriginal archaeological assessments, contribute to the preparation of conservation management plans, and provide specialist advice and support in historic archaeology to heritage advisors within the HEP team as required.
About you
The ideal candidate will be a driven, proactive, and positive professional with a strong commitment to continuous development, bringing relevant experience in Aboriginal and historical archaeological assessments gained through consultancy, government, or similar environments.
It is essential that you hold an appropriate tertiary qualification in archaeology or an equivalent discipline and a strong interest in heritage conservation, particularly Aboriginal archaeology and cultural values. A current NSW driver licence is essential, along with the willingness and capacity to travel to regional and remote areas, including overnight stays, and the physical ability to undertake field surveys in varied and sometimes challenging locations.
If you have the capability to achieve success in this role and are interested in creating a more prosperous NSW, we would love to hear from you!
