About the role

NSW Public Works (NSW PW) is part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and supports local and state government agencies to deliver critical infrastructure initiatives by providing expert advisory, planning, design, delivery and support services.

We are currently seeking an Urban and Regional Planner to join NSW Public Works (NSW PW) within the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).  This position is with the Heritage, Environment and Planning (HEP) team within NSW PW.

The intent of the role will be to manage concept design development of high-quality public projects and provide advice relating to urban and regional planning projects while contributing to high-quality sustainable environmental planning outcomes and reporting through a broad range of projects and programs. The role will also be expected to assist with the wider functions of the HEP team including the preparation of environmental assessment documents as necessary.

About You

To be successful in this role, our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Degree in Urban Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Planning or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in providing environmental planning advice and outcomes through the strategic and statutory planning processes for public infrastructure projects in NSW.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of NSW planning legislation and environmental planning instruments including the State Environmental Planning Policy (Transport and Infrastructure) 2021.
  • Demonstrated experience providing expert planning advice and coordinating and preparing amendments to LEPs and other statutory planning instruments to support the provision of key infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in the preparation of environmental impact assessment documents, including knowledge of key legislation and requirements.
  • Experience using advanced technology/mapping tools/GIS.
  • A valid NSW Driver’s license and willingness to drive to remote locations which may include overnight stays.
