This recruitment campaign aims to fill current vacancies while establishing a talent pool for anticipated opportunities over the next 18 months across the following three role types:
  1. Senior Project Officer
  2. Senior Policy Officer
  3. Senior Analyst

Successful candidates may be considered for ongoing or temporary opportunities as they arise across NSW Resources.

As a Senior Project Officer, Senior Policy Officer or Senior Analyst within NSW Resources, you will play a pivotal role in shaping strategic policy responses to emerging and often complex issues across the exploration and mining industry critical minerals, the economic contribution of the resources sector and the net zero transition. You will undertake rigorous research and analysis to identify trends, risks and opportunities, translating insights into clear and practical advice that informs senior executive and Ministerial decision making.

Your work will directly contribute to evidence-based strategy and policy development and the safe and sustainable management of the state’s mineral and petroleum resources, supporting long-term prosperity for regional communities and the people of NSW. These roles are focused on strategy and policy development to address key issues relating to the NSW Resources portfolio and provide meaningful insights.

In these roles, you will:

  • Provide high-level advice on strategy, policy, industry trends and emerging issues.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders across the Department and the NSW Government to develop strategy and policy for the NSW mining and exploration sector.
  • Undertake research and analysis including contemporary themes in the market, identifying trends, risks and opportunities to support development of evidence-based options to address strategic issues relating to the Resources portfolio.
  • Tailor communication to support translating complex information into clear, accessible advice for diverse audiences.
  • Contribute to a wide range of discrete projects, including briefings, advice, project plans and reporting.
  • Contribute to the preparation of timely, concise, high-quality briefing materials to support senior executive and Ministerial decision making,

As our ideal candidate, you will be:

  • Proactive and motivated: A self-starter who can take initiative, think ahead, consider risks and able to contribute to, lead or manage projects.
  • Strong communicator: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex information into plain English for executive and Ministerial audiences.
  • Flexible and adaptable: Open to pivot and change as needed, comfortable with ambiguity, and keen to explore new ideas and solutions.
  • Curious: An understanding of the broader strategic context we operate in, a keen interest in keeping across emerging issues and global and national developments, and able to consider its impact for NSW.
  • Familiar with Government processes: Understanding of regulations, legislation, policy and Cabinet processes

Experience working in a policy environment or contributing to policy development including briefings, cabinet processes and legislative or regulatory reform will be highly regarded.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in a related discipline such as economics, political science, finance, law, planning, sustainability or general science
  • Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement
