Apply now Job no: 500022
Work type: Full time
Location: Victoria
Categories: People and Culture (HR)

At The Reject Shop, we have proudly stood as a household name in Australian retail for over 40 years. Our mission? Delivering incredible value to our customers every day. With over 390 stores nationwide and the exciting growth of our business there has never been a better time to join us. As we accelerate our transformation, we are looking for a passionate, values-driven Head of Safety & Wellbeing to shape the way we protect our people, stores, DCs and customers.

This is your chance to:

  • Lead from the front to set the WHS strategy for a national retailer in rapid growth mode.
  • Build and champion a strong safety culture across every aisle, back dock, distribution centre and store support centre
  • Influence at every level, from senior execs to store team members, making safety real, relevant, and respected.
  • Drive proactive wellbeing initiatives that support our team’s physical, emotional and psychological health.

This role is part strategist, part change agent, part coach and 100% business critical.

What you will do

  • Set the WHS strategy and translate it into action across our national store network and support functions
  • Champion and mitigate critical risk and control management – with compliance as your baseline, not your benchmark
  • Lead and empower a skilled WHS team to deliver results across injury management, incident prevention, and wellbeing
  • Represent The Reject Shop with confidence in legal forums, insurer relationships, and industry bodies
  • Translate technical jargon into practical, people-first safety solutions
  • Use data and insight to guide decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Shape and support a national wellbeing agenda that helps our people thrive, not just survive

What we are looking for

You are an experienced safety professional with a strong foundation in WHS and injury management, but more than that, you are a genuine leader, who:

  • Thinks strategically, plans long-term and executes with urgency
  • Coaches teams through complex challenges with clarity and calm
  • Delivers change with empathy, emotional intelligence and resilience
  • Brings retail, logistics or fast-paced industry experience (highly regarded!)
  • Has Cert IV or above in WHS, plus RTW Coordinator training
  • Understands regulatory frameworks, and knows how to work with (not just for) them
  • Communicates with impact across technical and non-technical audiences

Why you will love working with us

We are customer-obsessed, fun, down-to-earth, and united by a common purpose: helping Australians save money everyday. Our team is made up of good people who do great things and we’re not afraid to challenge the status quo if it means getting better results.

Here, you will find:

  • A real seat at the table, your work will be visible and valued
  • A flat, fast-moving business where every idea matters
  • Work in a hybrid model – 3 days in-office (Mon–Wed), 2 days from home
  • Kensington location – easily accessible by tram and train
  • A team that has your back and loves to win together
  • The chance to shape something meaningful and lasting

Our Values - We live by these, and we hope you do too:

  • Customer Obsessed – Our customers are at the heart of everything we do
  • Right Team, One Team – We achieve together and act with integrity
  • Lowest Cost Counts – We keep costs low and keep things simple
  • Own It, Do It – We do what we say and we do it with confidence
