Network Engineer

About the Role
The Network Engineer plays a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and scalable network solutions across the Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst (CEDB). This includes the development of SD-WAN configurations, enhancing network performance, and supporting schools and office environments with connectivity and infrastructure needs.
The Network Engineer works closely with the ICT Manager, project teams, and external vendors to support the Diocese’s mission through reliable and innovative ICT services.
Day-to-day responsibilities may include:
- Designing and deploying Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) solutions.
- Coordinating implementation and maintenance of network infrastructure across multiple locations.
- Conducting network performance optimisation and monitoring.
- Managing network security through encryption, device hardening and Zero Trust methodologies.
- Supporting and troubleshooting Level 2/3 network-related issues.
- Maintaining documentation on network configurations, processes, and change logs.
- Providing guidance and support to other ICT team members.
- Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors.
About You (Selection Criteria)
The successful Network Engineer will contribute to the success of CEDB by demonstrating the following:
- Strong hands-on experience with networking technologies such as Cisco, Meraki, Palo Alto, and Aruba.
- High-level proficiency in WAN technologies, including MPLS, NBN, and satellite services.
- Expertise in designing and implementing SD-WAN environments.
- Solid knowledge of routing, VPN technologies, and network protocols.
- Strong understanding of network security, encryption practices, and hardening techniques.
- Experience with network monitoring and logging solutions.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work both independently and within a team.
- A current networking certification (e.g. Cisco, Meraki, Palo Alto) is essential.
- Certification or experience in SD-WAN technologies is highly desirable.
- Ability to be able to work out of our Bathurst office.
- A willingness to support the mission and purpose of Catholic education within the Bathurst Diocese.
