Title: Technical Construction Officer

Level: DHA Level 6

Location: Brisbane, Townsville and Darwin

Salary range: $93,834- $107,874 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) is a Nationally Recognised Government Business Enterprise with the primary role of providing housing and related services to Defence and their families. DHA manages one of Australia’s largest national housing portfolios of about 17,000 properties and has an opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join the team.

About the role

As the Technical Construction Manager, you will provide accurate and specialist advice within all areas of work that will include tasks such as scoping of works, quality assurance, managing building defects and assisting with upgrade and construction project management.

You will develop excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Regional Operations staff, Property Operations staff, Property function National Managers, other DHA staff, Australian Defence Force representatives and construction industry representatives.

About your team
As part of the Service Delivery team, Property function, you will help your broader team meet their delivery objectives for high quality housing services, including: provisioning, maintenance services, stock management, housing allocation and living-in accommodation booking services.

The Property function is responsible for the delivery of developments, construction, acquisitions, sales, upgrades and heritage programs. As a member the Technical, Heritage, Upgrades & Defects (THUD) Team, you will provide technical support to the Property function and other DHA staff.

Skills you need to succeed in this role:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a residential construction environment with a carpentry and/or building background as well as trade or tertiary qualification in the construction industry.
  • Strong decision making ability based on sound judgement, expertise and knowledge.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills including the ability to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders both verbally and written.
  • Strong ability to manage priorities, organise workloads and meet challenging deadlines under limited direction.
  • Demonstrated expertise in undertaking complex research work and analysis including the preparation of reports to communicate outcomes.
  • Proven experience using a range of database and workflow management systems and experience using the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to read/interpret plans and specifications, using them as a tool along with the Australian Standards and National Construction Code to ensure the scope of works is being completed correctly.
  • Previous experience in a similar position, providing supervision of trades and direction on works.
  • Proven experience in developing plans and objectives for short-term tasks and contributing to strategic planning for longer-term initiatives.
