The Activities Director is responsible for organizing and developing therapeutic recreation services for the Arizona State Veteran Home (ASVH) in Yuma, AZ. As the Activities Director you will be responsible for designing, planning, organizing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. By regularly conducting behavioral interventions and group/individual therapy sessions for residents you will find that the therapeutic services may include, but are not limited to biofeedback, massage therapy, therapeutic touch, Reiki therapy, music therapy, art therapy, guided mediation/relaxation, yoga, and Tai chi.
As a State of Arizona employee you will learn, implement and monitor Arizona Management System (AMS) methods and utilize AMS concepts and tools for problem solving and continuous work/process improvements and efficiencies. As a Department of Veterans’ Services employee you will incorporate a cultural focused on Veteran/Member-centered care in the performance of job duties.
Clinical training/experience. Strong background using one or more alternative therapy modalities.
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
- Requires certification as a Recreation Therapist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification or the National Association of Activity Professionals, or certification as a Music Therapist by the Certification Board for Music Therapists, or credential as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant.
- Current Negative Tb skin test (Mantoux skin test) within the last twelve months or a written statement from a physician, physician’s assistant or a registered nurse practitioner indicating freedom from Tuberculosis, if in the past has had a positive skin test or Tuberculosis
- Requires the ability to obtain and retain a valid AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- This position requires the ability to drive on State business. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on State business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see A.AC. R2-10-207.11).
