This position will perform direct physical therapy evaluation, assessment, screening & treatment; devises a schedule of work, itinerary, agenda, or timetable, or establishes priorities for self on a daily, weekly, or other periodic basis; evaluates work and formulates plans for improvements; develops and implements treatment programs; supervises, controls, and improves its functioning or utilization; evaluates with physicians, other disciplines, and higher level therapists, the neurophysiologic needs of individuals and adapts the various techniques of physical therapy to meet these needs; develops and/or adjusts treatment or service plan for patient based on knowledge of patient's situation gained from interviewing and gathering case information; conducts therapy with individuals and groups in accordance with treatment plans and specific methodologies and techniques; chooses treatment modalities for their ability to produce predetermined goals such as increased muscle strength and coordination, improved gait, improved functional mobility and techniques to decrease pain; attends patient staff meetings as needed; participates in discussions and problem solving processes; participates in establishing and maintaining a safe, orderly, and therapeutic treatment environment; designs and constructs adaptive, assistive, and supportive equipment for use of patients to improve motor functioning, strengthen and support muscles, or prevent malfunctions or deformity; confers with other staff members, specialists, consultants and members of the treatment team discussing client care, treatment, or case determination; maintains appropriate clinical and administrative records regarding diagnosis, treatment, and summary of patient's progress; conducts and participates in in-service training and staff development programs; attends supervisory and work system management meetings as needed; gives and receives information, participates in problem solving and decision making; compiles information and writes periodic reports on activities; confers with other practitioners and technical experts in order to broaden knowledge, acquire specific information, or obtain advice or consultation. Performs related work as required.
− Evaluates/assesses new patients and consults on patients; develops and/or adjusts treatment plan based on case information; chooses treatment modalities for patients.
− Conducts therapy with individuals and groups in accordance with treatment plans and specific methodologies and techniques.
− Maintains appropriate clinical and administrative records regarding diagnosis, treatment, and summary of patients’ progress; documents patient care and prepares all required reports.
− Confers with staff members, specialists, and members of treatment team, determining patient care and treatment plan; attends supervisory and work system management meetings; participates in problem solving and decision-making process.
− Other duties as assigned to the position.
− Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques of physical therapy and its relationship to other professions, of anatomy, kinesiology and the therapeutic effects of exercise and of community resources for care and rehabilitation of physical health issues.
− Skills in applying physical therapy techniques & treatment- evaluating patients’ needs, planning therapeutic treatment programs and plans, explaining and demonstrating techniques to staff members, and patients.
− Motivating patients and ability to work as a team member in interdisciplinary meetings.
− Ability to develop goals and objectives for the program.
− Ability to assess patient's needs; develop treatment plans and goals; plan and carry out and evaluate treatment programs; communicate in oral and written form on the patient's progress toward goals and objectives; interpret and apply hospital rules, regulations, policies and procedures and protocols
− Establish positive therapeutic relationships with patients; implement and supervise patient treatment; establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all hospital discipline personnel; develop effective patient treatment modalities.
− Required to perform work at/attend meetings at alternate locations and/or travel when necessary.
− Preference will be given to those with an advanced degree in P.T., those with previous experience providing P.T. in a mental health setting or those with a significant amount of experience.
- Requires certification as a Physical Therapist by The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) and licensure by the Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy (or must be attained within 6 months from the date of hire).
- A State Hospital employee must possess a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issues pursuant to A.R.S.41-1758.07 or must apply for a level one fingerprint clearance card within seven working days after beginning employment.
