Job Summary:

Supply Intern will have a unique opportunity to be a key member of the Supply and Demand Team, contributing to the assessment of the status of Arizona's 51 groundwater basins, which leads to the culmination of the annual Supply and Demand Reports. This role offers hands-on experience in quantifying the impacts on water supply at the groundwater basin level, statewide, and by sector (Agriculture, Municipal, and Industrial).

The selected candidate will learn about supply sectors, including groundwater, surface water, and effluent, while working closely with the lead supply analyst and technical supervisor. This position provides the chance to enhance technical proficiency and analytical capabilities by working with advanced GIS software such as ArcGIS and satellite-based data platforms like OpenET. Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to engage with various data sources and refine methodologies, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of Arizona's water supply landscape.

Schedule: Hours may vary up to 40 hours per week.

Job Duties:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing statewide supply assessments for Arizona’s 51 groundwater basins, specifically on agricultural water demands.
  • Assist with conducting short—and long-term supply scenarios at the groundwater basin, statewide, and/or sector (groundwater, surface water, and effluent) levels.
  • Use data and analytical tools to quantify the impacts on supply at the groundwater basin, statewide, and sector (agricultural/industrial/municipal) levels.
  • Collaborate with supply analysts to adapt estimation methods and scenarios to individual groundwater basins.
  • Help in enhancing the availability of public records on the ADWR website.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Desired Qualifications:

  • An analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret remote sensing data, aerial imagery, and topographic maps.
  • Familiarity with web-based tools or an eagerness to understand and promote their use.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working well within a team environment, including establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Selective Preference(s):

Candidates must be enrolled in school and pursuing a degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Geology or related field.
