Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is searching for an analytical, enthusiastic Equipment Repair Technician to resolve issues with the vehicle's performance and inspect mechanical and electronic components. This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of vehicles at the various assigned locations to include Central Office and prison complexes. Apply today!

Job Duties:

- Notifies vehicle users of preventive maintenance schedule, coordinates loaner vehicle assignments as needed, interfaces with customers for vehicle deliveries and drop-offs
- Transports vehicles to various locations for service
- Participates in daily meetings providing updates on existing vehicle repair status
- Prepares plans to accommodate transporting vehicles to various locations for repairs to be conducted
- Ensures accurate data entry into department automated fleet management program Ron Turley Associates (RTA)
- Conducts vehicle inspections
- Provides coverage, as needed, at various complexes performing mechanical duties/repairs
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Power/drive train system inspections and diagnoses
- Repair procedures of electrical systems, inspections, and diagnoses
- Electronic control systems inspections diagnosis, repair procedures, and computerized diagnostic analyzer uses and practices
- Hydraulic system inspections
- Diagnosis, repair procedures and operating principles of gasoline and diesel-fueled internal combustion engines
- Principles and practices of scheduled preventive maintenance programs
- Automotive/truck and heavy equipment operating procedures

Skill in:
- Using computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment to troubleshoot and repair electric, electronic, and mechanical systems
- Using a wide variety of specialized tools and equipment to service, repair, and maintain the automotive, truck, and heavy construction equipment
- Preparing accurate repair estimates and establishing the best and most effective course of repair action
- Using repair service and overhaul manuals
- Performing quality control inspections
- Estimating time and material costs of repairs on equipment
- Using computerized and various software including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and Google)
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing

Ability to:
- Lifting/Carrying up to 50lbs
- Pushing/Pulling up to 50lbs
- Walking/Running up to 0.5 miles
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and electronic hydraulic system problems
- Perform safety and preventive maintenance inspections
- Overhaul, repair, and service a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment
- Follow and effectively communicate verbal and written instructions
- Prioritize, schedule, and track repairs and services for a large fleet operation
- Comprehend and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Work in a prison environment

Selective Preference(s):

- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in at least two categories
- Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS)-Air Conditioning Certification
- Five years of continuous working experience at a Journeyman level as an automotive or heavy equipment mechanic

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

Requires possession of a valid driver’s license and a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a “P” endorsement within the first six months from the date of hire. Retention of said licenses and endorsements are required during the period of employment. Additional CDL endorsements may be required during the period of employment to the position’s assignment.
Within the first year from the hire date, this position would require the individual to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Brake Inspector and DOT Commercial Vehicle Inspector Certifications.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
