The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA), led by The Adjutant General, provides emergency management and military capabilities to the citizens of Arizona and the nation. The Emergency Management Division consists of three sections—operations, preparedness, and financial administration. Each section works collaboratively across the agency and with external partners to manage emergency responses and reduce the impacts of disasters. Additionally, DEMA is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard, the primary combat reserve of the United States military. The Arizona Army and Air National Guard provide military forces and equipment to accomplish community, state, and federal missions.

Job Summary:

The Range Ops & Maintenance Technician position is to repair, operate, and maintain a variety of Army Standard Integrated Target Systems, such as SITS (Stationary Infantry Targets), SATS ( Stationary Armor Targets), and wooden zero targets. This person will be responsible for ensuring the projects initiated through Range and Training Land Program (RTLP) are completed to State and Federal standards. The incumbent of this position reports directly to the RTLP Coordinator in Phoenix, AZ.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities include:
• Performs routine maintenance and checks, light repairs of range lifters, including target replacement, target lifter radio communications, antenna replacement, target shed inspections and range signs.
• Asset Range staff with day-to-day operations to including but not limited to checking military units in for use of the range, answering phones and clearing ranges.
• Read and understand drawings, site sketches, blueprints, and other construction documents. Reviews engineering plans and specifications and directs execution of plans pertaining to construction, alteration, conversion maintenance and repair of the ranges and lifters.
• Operate equipment such as Water truck, skid steer and back hoes to place range signs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Complex safety, security and operational maintenance procedures and practices
• Firearm and range safety procedures
• First aid training or equivalent experience

Skilled in:
• Effective communication both written and verbal
• Proficient with computers and trouble shooting
• Proficient with power and hand tools (drills, saws, leaf blowers, shovels, etc.)
• Proficient in driving off road in trucks and OHV/ATV (Polaris)

Ability to:
• Work and collaborate with coworkers to produce innovative concepts and resolve issues
• Must understand and interpret proper work methods
• Display sound judgment
• Carry out verbal instructions and communicate verbally with coworkers
• Must have working knowledge of Microsoft WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision
• Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather

Selective Preference(s):

3-5 years of experience working as project lead, to include assisting in design/planning, submitting reports and completing projects according to specifications. Preferred candidate will have knowledge/experience working within military structure on military installations, and familiarity with State and Federal regulations and guidelines for construction on military installations.

• This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
• In State travel required.
• Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background investigation as well as possess the ability to achieve a favorable Tier 1 investigation for the purpose of obtaining a Common Access Card (CAC) within one year of hire.
