Job Summary:

Due to the high caliber of internal ASRS candidates, this recruitment is open only to current ASRS employees.

The Member Services & Benefits Division of the Arizona State Retirement System is seeking an individual to fill the Member Benefits Tier 3 Supervisor position.


This position offers the ability to work remotely based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

• Oversee the work performed in the Member Benefits Tier 3 team which includes reviewing and calculating new retirees, survivor benefits, complex refunds, Pension Audits and Adjustments.
• Plan, schedule, and prioritize workload; review workflow of unit, recommend and
implement procedural changes; employee performance appraisals; develop training programs
• Contribute to various work queues of Member Benefits area; provide assistance in major workflows of division, including inbound contacts.
• Supervise, support, and motivate staff to ensure organizational goals are accomplished;
provide opportunities for training, decision making, participation, and innovation; set team and
individual goals
• Read and interpret applicable codes, laws, and regulations, ensuring compliance, and resolve technical or work procedural problems and questions
• Compile information for and prepare reports on activities of the work unit
• Resolve transactions and escalations regarding membership rules and estimation and distribution of benefits as applicable to individual members
• Work with TSD on projects, service requests, and bug fixes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

• At least three years’ experience banking, pension, government, or client/customer service industry.
• Experience in establishing and maintaining strong relationships with all levels of organization
• Strong project management skills
• Exceptional skills in identifying/analyzing organizational and/or procedural problems and
determining and implementing effective solutions
• Ability to review work and meet deadlines with accuracy
• Proven ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral format
• Experience with training and developing staff, performance reviews, and handling related employee issues

Selective Preference(s):

Ideal candidate will have will have two years of supervisor/leadership experience and a four-year college degree in business, public administration, or related field.
