Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Administration, General Services Division (ADOA-GSD) is seeking a skilled and dedicated HVAC Mechanic to join our Facilities Operations and Maintenance (FOAM) team. This role is vital to ensuring a comfortable and functional work environment at the Arizona State Hospital (ASH). You will play a critical role in maintaining the complex HVAC systems, many of which are aging and require specialized expertise. This position may require work during evenings and weekends to address urgent maintenance needs and ensure continuous operation of critical systems. Job Duties:
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, inspects, modifies, and repairs a wide range of industrial HVAC equipment, including DX and hydronic systems, chillers, cooling towers, fans, pumps, VFDs, VRV systems, motors, and electrical controls
  • Implements and facilitates the Energy Management System (EMS) and HVAC controls to optimize building comfort and energy efficiency
  • Installs, adjusts, calibrates, and troubleshoots computer-based EMS programs for effective HVAC control and energy management
  • Addresses Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) concerns through system maintenance and optimization
  • Provides support for general building maintenance needs as required
  • Ensures proper function of safety devices and equipment protection mechanisms
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Electrical, mechanical and HVAC/Stationary Engineering systems Heat load, chiller, and DX system calculations
  • Energy management systems such as Andover, Navar, Siemens, and Tridium
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and ladder diagrams
  • Current HVAC construction principles, methods and techniques of CMMS systems

Skilled in:

  • Estimating time and material requirements for work projects
  • Cost analysis of repairing existing equipment versus replacement with new equipment 
  • Installation, repair and maintenance of all HVAC systems and assignments common to the trade

Ability to:

  • Diagnose problems/malfunctions in a wide variety of cooling/refrigeration equipment
  • Inspect, service, repair and install a wide variety of cooling/refrigeration equipment
  • Effective oral and written communications
  • Maintain records and prepare reports
Selective Preference(s):
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an inquisitive mindset
  • Ability to work independently and persistently under pressure
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • 4-5 years of journeyman experience in the Industrial HVAC field
  • NATE certification is highly preferred
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Background and reference check, including state and federal criminal records fingerprint check
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license
