The State of Arizona Board of Executive Clemency (AZBOEC) is currently seeking a Hearing Officer II to conduct hearings informally or in a quasi-judicial manner.
Under direction, this employee schedules, conducts, and presides over administrative hearings and related proceedings and performs related work as required.
• Prepares case information summaries on pending Board matters
• Applies legal standards and policies in decision making
• Prepares written decisions on pending Board matters
• Hears testimony and evaluates evidence presented
• Schedules and conducts administrative hearings
• Other duties assigned as related to the position
Knowledge:
• This position requires knowledge of the laws, rules, procedures, and terminology applicable to the assignment. In addition, the successful candidate must be knowledgeable of administrative hearing procedures and rules of evidence. Experience in the criminal justice system equal to a minimum of five years
Skills:
• This position requires a skill set which includes: analytical reasoning; effective communication skills; management of hearing process; and clear and concise writing
Abilities:
• This position requires the ability to analyze and appraise facts; apply legal principles and precedents; and preside over hearing procedures
• Preference given to candidates who have an active license to practice law in the State of Arizona or those who have had one in the past
• Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver license record checks, required to maintain acceptable driving records and complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11)
• Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver license appropriate to the assignment
