DEPT OF EMERGENCY AND MILITARY AFFAIRS

The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA), led by The Adjutant General, provides emergency management and military capabilities to the citizens of Arizona and the nation. The Emergency Management Division consists of three sections—operations, preparedness, and financial administration. Each section works collaboratively across the agency and with external partners to manage emergency responses and reduce the impacts of disasters. Additionally, DEMA is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard, the primary combat reserve of the United States military. The Arizona Army and Air National Guard provide military forces and equipment to accomplish community, state, and federal missions.

Salary: $16.4525 - $22.9807 per hour (DOE)

Job Summary:

Position has maintenance responsibilities for numerous disaster response and recovery facilities and equipment requiring a high state if readiness in order to support the State response to emergencies and disasters 24/7. Position will work out of the CFMO maintenance office and take on assignments from the Facilities Administrator.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities include:
• Modify, remodel or renovate ADEM buildings, facilities and components
• Repair facility systems and building components
• Execute Facility Preventative Maintenance Program to include inspecting the facilities and their systems: electrical, plumbing, environmental, structural, and IT components
• Conduct Facility Safety Program, Conduct Safety Surveys of Facilities, Prepare Safety Inspection reports, Initiate corrective actions
• Maintain agency DOA fleet and non-DOA fleet vehicles to include mobile emergency communications and operations systems
• Install and maintain telecommunications antennae array. Maintain systems and sub-systems

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Common and Specialized tools, equipment and materials related to work.
• Blueprints, plans, sketches and components of buildings and related utility systems.
• National and Local building codes.
• Methods and practices involved in remodeling, construction and installing or replacing major utility services.
• Estimating, costing and ordering materials.
• Leadership and supervisory methods and practices.

Skilled in:
• Use of common and specialized tools and equipment.
• Determining materials required for repairs.
• Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

Ability to:
• Read and interpret plans, blueprints, sketches and schematics related to utilities service systems.
• Applying and interpreting National and local building codes.
• Applying methods and practices of remodeling and construction.
• Estimating, costing and ordering materials related to building maintenance.
• Establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships.

Selective Preference(s):

Desired qualifications include any combination of experience, education, and training that meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities as described. The preferred candidate should have 10 years experience in construction trades or building maintenance. Up to 5 years’ experience may be replaced by formal education in the construction trades. Certificates in any of the construction trades, RoC license or similar affiliations.

• This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
• In State travel required.
• Individuals are required to pass a criminal background investigation.
• Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Tier 1 (T1) investigation for purpose of obtaining a Common Access Card (CAC) for federal IT domain system access.
