BUILDING MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST - SKILLBRIDGE

*Must be able to complete a minimum of 8 weeks and up to a maximum of 6 months SkillBridge internship*

Job Summary:

This position will cover specific needs including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc., assisting with the preventive maintenance and repair, including minor remodeling and construction, of buildings, exhibits, and related utilities support services equipment. Inspects the building and other structures to determine functional systems and to detect malfunctions and needed repair; makes notes and recommendations.

Performs minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry work for facilities and exhibits teams. Moves office furniture and equipment to assist with Facility Rentals.

Demolishes old exhibits, patches, and paints walls, and installs new exhibits. Works with power tools to build exhibit displays, etc. Performs related work as required. Address all other urgent issues related to building maintenance as needed at all Tucson locations.

Job Duties:

• All basic functions related to electrical, plumbing, and carpentry, this will include but is not limited to replacing breakers, changing light fixtures and bulbs, replacing broken parts in sinks, toilets, and drinking fountains, replacing leaky pipes and fittings, fixing random leaks, etc

• Routine HVAC Maintenance, works with the HVAC systems to ensure proper function, to turn on/off seasonally, replace HVAC filters, and all other required maintenance

• Facility Set-ups, assist in moving furniture, rearranging offices, moving materials, and setting up and taking down tables and chairs

• Exhibit Preparation, demolish and dispose of old exhibits, construct new exhibits and displays, and install new exhibits and displays

• Grounds Keeping and Landscape Maintenance, keep the museum courtyard and exterior as clean and neat as possible

• Work with curators and other staff on development and design, construction, and production

• Be able to paint walls, and objects, and use different kinds of paints and methods

• Painting and Drywall Repairs, patching cracks and holes in walls, and sand

• Trim trees, trim hedges, remove weeds, sweep, rake, etc

• Minor fixes to walls, floors, ceilings, offices, and furniture

• Construction of basic furniture and fixtures

• Provides upgrades to areas as needed

• Work with power tools

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:

• Methods and techniques used in lifting, moving, stacking, storing, and protecting tools, equipment, and materials; methods and practices applied in generalized preventive maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction activities

• Federal and local safety laws, rules, and policies governing work activities and safety equipment

• The rules, regulations, and procedures of the work system

• Tools, equipment, and materials used in the workplace

• National and local building codes

Skills:

• Applying Federal and local safety laws, rules, and policies and using safety equipment

• Properly using, maintaining, and securing tools, equipment, and materials

• Applying national and local building codes

Abilities:

• Generalized preventive maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction activities

• Lifting, moving, stacking, storing, and protecting tools, equipment, and materials

Selective Preference(s):

• One year of experience equivalent to a Building Maintenance Worker or any combination of training and experience that meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) may be substituted

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Ability to obtain a Valid state Drivers license
