Job Summary:

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office Child and Family Division/Protective Services Section is seeking a Paralegal III Supervisor. This position reports directly to the Unit Office Administrator (OA). This position will provide training, guidance and leadership to unit paralegals. This position will oversee the duties and job functions of the assigned paralegals, ensuring timely filed and prepared documents. This position will manage case load and distribution when a position is vacant or a staff member is on annual or sick leave.

Remote Options: This position may be eligible for Remote Work two days a week.

Job Duties:

This position will work closely with multiple Assistant Attorneys General (AAG) maintaining a cohesive working relationship between the support staff and the AAGs. Position duties involve supporting one or more AAGs including; performing legal research, gathering evidence for trials; drafting and preparing legal memoranda, briefs, opinions, and legislation necessary for the processing of dependency/severance cases referred by the client agency. The paralegal answers inquiries from clients, court personnel, and others regarding case activity and status using automated case management systems to maintain and track case records and activity. Comply with all laws rules and office policies and procedures.
This position will approve ETE and leave requests. This position will perform supervisory functions under the direction of the Unit OA. Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervising personnel. Duties involve reviewing, creating, and processing materials and information that are confidential by federal and state Laws.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge
• Organizational and functional structure of state agency; methods and techniques involved in conducting analytical studies of administrative and management practices, methods, and procedures.
• Practical applications of computers and peripheral equipment; inventory control and space management.
• Knowledge and understanding of applicable statues, rules, and regulations of state and federal courts.
• Knowledge of legal research techniques, terminology, forms, court procedures and applicable time frames in general and specifically and extensive knowledge of Juvenile Court Rules of dependency, severance, and guardianship practice.
• The principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques common to a modern law office

Skill
• Supervisory ability; communicating effectively orally and in writing.
• Prepare comprehensive analysis and reports, correspondence and other written materials.
• Proficient in work processing and spreadsheet techniques. Skill in coordination of legal requests, inquiries and responses expeditiously.
• Skill in conducting and controlling interviews with witnesses and parties involved in legal action.

Ability
• Perform duties independently or under minimal supervision; research, analyze, and make recommendations on administrative management and procedural practices; write logic, comprehensive, concise reports and correspondence.
• Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships. Use computer related peripheral equipment, prioritize work efficiently.
• Support staff; develop and train others in following procedures and instructions for administrative activities; effectively represent the Division to other agencies and the public.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will have a paralegal certification through an institutionally accredited program and a minimum of one year of full-time employment as a paralegal or, alternatively, two years full-time employment as a paralegal. Previous leadership experience is preferred.

• Travel may be required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.
