Job Summary:

Serve as a New Entrant Customer Service Representative 4 with duties involving the auditing and investigating of commercial motor vehicle carriers and complete inspections of commercial type vehicles. Select commercial vehicles for inspection and ensure compliance with Arizona Title 28 Motor Vehicle Code, other laws, rules and regulations governing these vehicles. Provide directions and information to the public and allied agencies; attend briefings and training days and train new personnel to conduct audits and inspections. Overtime and overnight travel may be required. A background check required. Rotational shift work required.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:
  • Lead in conducting inspections, testing, and determining compliance and testing on all types of commercial vehicle components and systems. Communicates with company owners and drivers, audits and investigates motor carrier documentation, assess driver’s physical condition, inspect log books and other documentation; identify when enforcement action is required and refer the problem to an enforcement officer.
  • Assist Enforcement officers if an emergency arises. Responsible for the issuance of FMCSA Safety Audits and CVSA Inspections, data entry; follow established safe working practices; establish and maintain good communication with customers; document audits and inspections, and complete other duties.
  • Performs duties involving public contact which may involve face to face contact with irate individuals. Perform New Entrant Safety Audits onsite at motor carrier facilities and online. Attend briefings and training. Train new personnel to conduct inspections.
  • Writing reports and completing other paperwork associated with this position as well as time management reporting. Maintain logs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Law.
  • Policies and procedures established for the Enforcement and Compliance Division.
  • Manufacturer's vehicle identification numbers and their confidential locations.
  • Principles of problem solving along with conflict resolutions.
  • Knowledge of office machines and computers.

Skill in:

  • Verbal and written communication skills necessary to provide clear and detailed information in response to a broad variety of requests for information.
  • Conducting safety audits.
  • Conducting vehicle inspections.
  • Customer service and telephone etiquette for interacting with customers on a constant basis.
  • Basic math computation to determine, calculate and collect appropriate fees and taxes.
  • Computer usage and time management reporting.
  • Organizational and time management to complete tasks in a timely manner independently or in a group setting.
  • Google Workspace.

Ability to:

  • To perform professional customer service.
  • Understand and interpret Commercial Federal Regulations.
  • Understand and interpret Arizona Revised Statutes.
  • Resolve technical problems, and answer questions regarding IFTA (International Fuel Tax Association) licensing and IRP (International registration Plan) registrations.
  • Operate general office equipment, answer phones and draft correspondence in various forms.
  • Multi-task among various transactions and use of database to complete transactions.
  • Obtain Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Level 1, General Hazardous Materials and New Entrant Safety Audit certification; and to maintain Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Level 1, General Hazardous Materials and New Entrant Safety Audit certification.
Selective Preference(s):

Knowledge/experience of Federal Motor Carrier regulations, Title 28, ECD Operational Orders and CVSA Level 1 and General Hazardous Materials Certification.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Valid driver's license

CVSA Level 1, General Hazardous Materials and New Entrant Safety Audit certification is required.

You have 6 months to obtain the CVSA and New Entrant Safety Audit certification from the day of hire.
