This position leads a bridge inspection team in performing complex and less complex bridge inspections on established schedules as per National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Bridge Group Inspection Guidelines. Travels statewide including distances that require overnight stays.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Plans, travels, directs and leads an inspection team in the routine/special/damage inspections of State and local agency bridges in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). Drives State vehicle in the course of State business.
Writes bridge inspection reports in approved format, documenting inspection findings and recommending required bridge repairs and/or maintenance needs with estimated costs and repair priorities.
Reviews bridge inspections reports and related documents prepared by State or consultant inspections teams and recommends required improvements in the report documents.
Updates bridge inventory data, utilizes Bridge Management Database system, including adding inspection documents and commenting on documents assigned for review, completes bridge evaluations, communicates with internal/external customers on bridge related issues.
Attends training as needed to comply with Federal and ADOT policies and procedures. Attends professional seminars and conferences.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge:
Knowledge and understanding of National Bridge Inspection Standards.
Knowledge and understanding of the Recording and Coding Guide for Structure Inventory and Appraisal for Nation's Bridges.
Knowledge and understanding of the Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual and Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridge.
Knowledge of the principles and practices in civil engineering as applied to design, development, construction and maintenance of the state highway system.
Knowledge of Federal and State statutes, agency standards, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to area of assignment.
Skills:
Skills in oral and written communication, leadership, making independent engineering judgment and interpersonal relationship.
Google Workspace.
Ability:
Ability to develop and foster respectful and trustworthy work environment for the team and others.
Ability to plan, organize and optimize available resources to meet multiple quality and schedule goals for the inspection team and section.

Completion of a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved comprehensive training course in safety inspection of In-Service bridges
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
A valid state Driver's license with an acceptable 39 month driving history.
Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona or eligible for reciprocity.
Certified Bridge Inspector for the Safety Inspection of In-Service Highway Bridges or able to obtain certification by completing a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved.
comprehensive training course in safety inspection of In-Service bridges within six months.
