Job Summary:

Under general direction of the Park Manager, assists in managing the operations of a highly utilized recreational or natural resource park with varied features, and ensures public safety by enforcing Park rules and regulations. In conjunction with the Park Manager, responsible for the park administration; including instructing, training and counseling subordinate staff and volunteers performing a variety of park tasks as well as problem solving and park decision making. Leads in the development of events, Interpretive and Environmental Education Programs.

Job Duties:

- Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of Park Rangers, Seasonals and Volunteers (park safety, custodial and maintenance duties, trash removal, minor repairs, interpretive and education programs etc.). Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with Park Ranger Senior. Decisions and problem-solving are coordinated with the Park Manager, directed by agency policies, procedures and safety protocols. Typically does not spend more than 20% of time performing the work supervised.

- Customer Service: Provides customer service by phone and in-person and respond to publics inquires about park hours, accommodations, reservations. Provide guidance in handling complex customer issues and/or resolving escalated customer complaints or disputes. Cash Handling - Perform cashier duties at Contact Station/Gift Shop; collect and account for fees for park admission and store purchases.

- Administratively completes various reports concerning incidents, revenue and attendance, recaps, time sheets, etc; reviews and recaps activity reports and other documents prepared by subordinate staff; makes purchases through procurement, budget recommendations and manages expenditures etc...

- Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
Outdoor recreation and park management, complex safety, security, sanitation, operation-maintenance, and public relations procedures and practices. Park safety and education information. Security matters, state laws, department policies, facility operational standards, and emergency response procedures. Facility procedures. Supervisory skills relevant to supervising employees and volunteers and special assignment personnel. Employee Public Health and Public Relation tasks. Knowledge of fees and revenue functions, general office procedures and outdoor parks and recreation. May require knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes and law enforcement techniques.

Skill in:
Using logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems; communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; motivating, developing, and directing people as they work; time management and organizational skills; controlling operations of equipment or systems. Understanding and using various communication styles; building professional relationships; collaboration with other work groups or organizations; public speaking and presenting to groups of various sizes; problem solving using AMS techniques

Ability to:
Supervise and maintain an efficient team environment with adequate staffing; communicate concisely, both verbally and in writing; exercise good judgment while working under pressure during emergency situations; apply management and supervision principles and techniques; establish and maintain work relationships; interpret policy; use deductive reasoning in applying general rules to specific problems to produce the best solutions or actions; work independently. Be an effective management team member and correctly convey the management directions to subordinate employees. Resolve conflicts or issues as they arise with customers and staff. Interact effectively with a wise variety of customers visiting the facility and successfully meeting their needs. Develop and teach training curriculum for customer service, park safety, park operations. Living on park may be required. 

Selective Preference(s):

Any combination of training and experience that meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs); typical ways KSAs are obtained may include but are not limited to: relevant degree from an accredited college or university, coursework and work experience relevant to assignment

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must obtain, possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver’s license appropriate to assignment.
