This position is responsible for managing unit supervisors and support staff, and promotes the safety and protection of children through sound decision making, and use of policy and procedures.
Directs, instructs and counsels personnel, who are supervisors, in their performance according to department and district policies pertaining to child services and personnel. Initiates and follows through on the discipline process, if necessary.
Monitors workload of units, identifies needs and available resources, identifies problem areas, and implements corrective action. Assists in developing plans to assist staff to successfully meet the performance expectations.
Completes weekly and monthly reporting documents and provides feedback and input regarding policies and procedures. Compiles and tracks data. Implements strategies to ensure department goals are met.
Monitors work in progress. Randomly reviews supervisors' evaluation of employee documentation entered into Guardian.
Resolves problems and questions presented by staff, clients, and others regarding work process, policies, procedures, organization or methods. Monitors high profile cases. Prepares critical incident reports and attends the debriefings.
Responds to customers, case participants, internal Department of Child Safety (DCS) staff, DCS Administration, mandated reporters, and the general public to address questions/concerns involving policy, procedures and issues related to specific cases.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of:
Federal and state laws/statutes pertaining to child welfare programs
Contemporary concepts and practices in child welfare programs including strength-based, family-centered practices
Policies and procedures established for the Juvenile Court system
Community resources utilized in the provision of child welfare services
Needs and responses of abandoned, neglected, abused and economically-deprived children
Skilled in:
Applying the principles and practices of work management and leadership
Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships as applied to contacts with other governmental officials, contracted service providers, and program clients
Applying methods and techniques of conflict resolution
Applying supervisory techniques
Verbal and written communication
Ability to:
Supervise units within assigned area
Travel in state Be available after business hours and on weekends to support staff with decisions relating to child safety
Work holidays as needed
Conduct individual and group supervision that focuses on competence, skill building and improved outcomes for children and families
Identify and ensure supervisory competence in safety and risk assessments
The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience and experience in automated case management systems/Guardian, and
knowledge of Child Welfare statutes and processes, including the investigation and on-going phases of case management.
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Master’s or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university AND
Three (3) years of DCS Program Supervisor experience OR
One (1) year of DCS Program Supervisor (Coach) experience and/or One (1) year of OCWI Investigations Manager Experience.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and the ability to secure and maintain clearance from the DCS Central Registry.
