We are the primary facility in the State of Arizona, with a staff of around 400 employees, dedicated to providing education and rehabilitation to the state's committed youth. We are currently seeking a Planning and Research Analyst Senior to join our small, collaborative team in the Continuous Improvement Bureau. This role involves conducting a range of analytical and statistical activities, ensuring accurate data tracking and reporting to internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will support data-driven decision-making and process improvements across the agency, including conducting multiple annual reports, program evaluations, performance measures, and special topic studies. With your expertise, we can continue to positively impact the lives of Arizona's youth.

Job Duties:
  • Collecting and/or pulling data and performing statistical analysis with software such as SPSS, SQL, Tableau, Access and Excel
  • Designing, conducting or participating in research projects
  • Designing and preparing professional reports, memorandums, and presentations from analysis of data and literature reviews
  • Project management
  • Conducting literature reviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
  • State rules and regulations
  • Agency policies and procedures
  • In depth knowledge and at least three years experience with research methodologies and techniques
  • Evidence-based practices in criminal justice
  • Development of performance measures and indicators

Skill in:

  • Advanced statistical skills: manipulation and analysis of datasets; and technical query development from data systems
  • Research methods, including methodology development, sampling techniques, methods to identify variation in performance data, statistical analysis and data quality/validation methods
  • Organizational skills that result in prioritization of multiple tasks and ability to meet deadlines
  • Project management experience
  • Statistical software such as SPSS, Excel, Tableau, Access and SQL
  • Proficient writing skills

Ability to:

  • Design and prepare professional reports from analyses of data and literature reviews
  • Identify, analyze, and report trends and issues
  • Collaborate with others outside and inside the agency to identify problems and form recommendations
  • Recommend evidence-based interventions
  • Work in a correctional environment
Selective Preference(s):
The ideal candidate shall possess one of the following:
  • Experience with Tableau, SQL Management Studio
  • Master’s Degree or higher in social science discipline plus three (3) years of experience OR;
  • Bachelor’s Degree plus five (5) years of experience in conducting research, data analysis, or program evaluations.

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).
