Job Summary:

The Environmental Science Specialist (Drinking Water Case Manager) will be responsible to ensure Public Water Systems (PWSs) are compliant with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Writing Notices of Violation (NOV) and Consent Orders (CO) based on a system exceeding a health based standard and other deficiencies found during a file review and an inspection.
Assisting the PWS with legal status, funding opportunities, rate cases, design and construction management, and other compliance issues.
Escalating cases to the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) if necessary.
Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
Gmail, Google Meets, Google Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.
LEAN management/ Arizona Management System (results-driven management system focusing on customer service, transparency and accountability and continuous improvement)
Knowledge of Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and state regulations
Skills and Abilities:
Experience as a certified operator in water distribution and/or treatment is desirable.
Experience as an inspector of public water systems is desirable.
Self-motivated with the ability to complete tasks without direct supervision.
Problem solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong customer service skills.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to balance, prioritize, and organize multiple tasks.
Ability to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports and to summarize completed tasks

Selective Preference(s):

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science/Management, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biology, Environmental/Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Sustainability, or Business Management
• Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) is desirable
• Level 1: 0- two years of relevant experience
• Level 2: two (2) years of relevant experience
• Level 3: five (5) years of relevant experience
• At Level 3, a Masters’ degree in a related field may substitute for 2 years’ experience, Doctorate 4 years’ experience, and an Environmental Professional in Training Certification through the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice (IPEP.org) or the ability to obtain certification within 1-year of hire.
• The position is approximately 95% work from home and 5% in the field/office.
