Job Summary:

Open to current ADCRR employees only 

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a strong leader with amazing communication and motivational coaching skills to fill our Community Corrections Unit Supervisor position. This position works under the general supervision of a Community Corrections Group Supervisor (CCGS). Provides recommendations, community supervision violations investigations, caseload completions, and oversight and management of the daily operations within a specific unit with subordinates to which they are assigned.

Job Duties:

- Provides oversight of daily operations within a specific unit through subordinates
- Serves as the designated backup supervisor of a metropolitan parole office in the absence of the Community Corrections Group Supervisor
- Recommends warrants and placement or release of jail holds
- Arrests and takes community supervision violators into custody
- Ensures compliance with statutory laws and agency policy and procedures
- Assigns cases, reviews work, and makes recommendations of work assignments for staff
- Functions as a field training officer (FTO) for Community Corrections offices
- Evaluates and assesses staff attendance, performance, and provides input on career development assessments, evaluations, and feedback on a periodic and annual basis
- Provides timely and appropriate case management to adult offenders
- Successful reintegration of offenders into a productive and responsible community life
- Identification of violations of conditions of release and applying appropriate sanctions
- Proper completion of risk and need assessment
- May supervise a caseload based on the needs of the office
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Applicable Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, policies, and procedures governing adult community corrections and due process
- The Arizona Criminal Code, including criminal, civil, and administrative court procedures
- Principles, methods, and techniques of investigating, surveillance, interviewing, and paraprofessional counseling
- Effective caselong management techniques
- Principles of modern psychology, sociology, and their application to human behavior
- Cultural and socioeconomic factors that influence behavior and decision-making
- Management and supervisory practices applicable to a public safety and corrections environment
- Evidence-based practices in community corrections, including risk and needs assessment models

Skill in:
- Verbal and written communication
- Establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders
- Conducting investigations, searches, surveillance operations, and interviews in accordance with legal standards
- Managing caseloads and supporting the overall caseload distribution among parole officers
- Crisis intervention strategies in high-risk or urgent situations
- Interpreting and applying the Arizona Criminal Code and applicable laws, rules, and policies
- Performing administrative and management-related duties

Ability to:
- Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate operations within an assigned area
- Efficiently prioritize, manage, and evaluate multiple tasks, projects, and competing demands
- Apply leadership principles to support team goals and agency objectives
- Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate staff
- Complete and maintain all mandatory training, including Core Competency testing, firearms qualification and proficiency, and defensive tactics academy

Selective Preference(s):

- Two (2) years of experience as a Community Corrections Officer or equivalent experience
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in social service, criminal justice, or related field
- Enrolled in a program of study at an accredited university or college at the time of application

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must attend and complete the Corrections Officer Training Academy (COTA) and the Community Corrections Officer Training Academy.

Have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college or must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program of study at an accredited university or college.

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and possibly a medical/physical examination.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
