Performs a broad scope of advanced journey level highway operational duties (including scheduling, assigning and overseeing unit work, inspecting work, training and guiding staff) related to items such as operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care and preservation, roadside shoulder restoration and repairs, delivery of equipment and materials, snow removal operations, office administration, permit compliance, record keeping, work management reports, inventory and features tracking, budgeting data entry, contract preparation and tracking, environmental compliance, vehicle and equipment care.

Manages district Brine Production Program. Manages brine pickups by other units, drives transport for deliveries, and receives and processes requests from other units and districts. Monitor brine salt levels. Enter brine into PeCoS inventory and transfer as applicable. Perform basic maintenance for brine production and storage systems. Clean bulk liquid storage tanks for the district.
Manages and coordinates paving crew and use of equipment. Coordinates equipment training with personnel. Communicates and plans with multiple units and vendors regarding the production schedule. Plans and requests any necessary overtime and travel arrangements for crews.
Manages district Hub and Spoke Program, including maintaining material and supply inventory. Receives transfers and semi-annual material reconciliation. Monitors inventory levels and manages surplus process.
Training & Inspection & Scheduling. Trains and evaluates others on truck-mounted &/or stand alone motorized vehicles and powered/non-powered equipment and tools with vendor equipment training. Performs simulator training. Vehicles and equipment include but are not limited to; loaders, large trucks, large trailers, variable message boards, snowplows, cone trucks, power brooms, water tankers, rollers, oil boots, and attenuators. Conducts required maintenance inspections and schedules servicing to comply with State and Federal laws, rules, policies and procedures.

*Procedures, practices, methods of the operation, preventive maintenance and minor repair of vehicles and equipment used in roadway operations, roadside operation, landscape and irrigation operations, sign operations, striping operations, and sign fabrication operations.

* Federal, state and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies & procedures pertaining to work activities, safety practices & public relations.

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
AZ State issued Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsements at time of appointment.
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
High school education or GED.
One year experience as Highway Operations Tech 3 or the equivalent.
PECOS, APP, Google workspace and/or MS Office Suite experience.
