The Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for one (1) Industrial Hygienist II position for our Environmental Services Division; the duty post for this position is located in Yuma Arizona.

This position performs a full range of health and safety inspections of commercial and/or private businesses applying pesticides in agricultural settings, at pesticide dealers or producing establishments or other work environments.

 

Job Duties:

Job Duties to include but not limited to:

• Collect samples for laboratory testing
• Read and analyze test reports
• Detect violations; investigates alleged violations of pesticide misuse; illegal storage and/or disposal, improper mixtures; issue citations; testify as required.
• Participate in employee and/or industry training
• Conduct health and safety inspections to ensure compliance with state and federal agricultural worker safety laws.
• Provide consultation to agricultural employers throughout the state to ensure compliance and/or increase understanding of and interpretations of agricultural safety laws.
• Consult with business owners to recommend corrective procedures or issue orders to cease and desist when conditions with the work place pose an imminent danger to an employees’ life of health.
• May assist with agency Pesticide Safety Trainer workshops in both English and Spanish.
• Other duties as assigned / Drive a State Vehicle

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Federal and State agriculture worker protection standards
• Federal and state pesticide laws, rules and standards, as well as Department and Division practices, policies and procedures
• Current practices of the agricultural industry or accepted investigation procedures and sampling methods
• Practical safety and loss control principles and methods designed to prevent, minimize or control accident-related losses

Skills in:
• Verbal and written communication
• Mathematic calculations, analyzing and evaluating technical data.
• Operation and maintenance of a variety of safety monitoring and sampling equipment
• Interpersonal relations, as applied to contact with representatives and government agencies
• Interpreting laws, rules and standards and cooperating procedures
• Investigation and inspection techniques, methods and evaluating evidence for presentation in civil, administrative, or criminal jurisdiction.
• Writing technical, complex, informative and persuasive inspections reports
• Use of laptop, personal computers, data bases and spreadsheets
• Safely operate motor vehicles and sampling equipment

Ability to:
• Analyze and evaluate a wide variety of technical data, to include laboratory analysis results reports and plans
• Interpret standards and make recommendations
• Complete assessments, investigation or consultative visits
• Make valid assessments of real and potential workplace health hazards.
• Respond to complaints and resolve issues in a positive and effective manner
• Complete duties as assigned

Selective Preference(s):

A back ground in agriculture, pesticides, and hazardous materials.
Strong computer skills in excel, power point and Access data bases.
Bilingual preferred (Spanish).

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Arizona Driver's License

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). ASRS is a mandatory condition of employment for all employees who meet the eligibility and membership criteria defined in statue. Current contribution rate is 12.00%. Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
