The Revenue Accountant 3 is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, recording and tracking of revenues due to the Department from the sale of licenses, permit tags, and watercraft registrations processed through on-line sales and multiple Department offices. This position processes charge backs, adjustments, and credits to multiple bank accounts and reconciles accounts daily including third party vendor revenues and sales. This position will establish and maintain effective fiscal management of all incoming revenue by analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating complex accounting and reporting systems and assists in the accuracy of financial data and reports.
Major responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate and approve the collection and deposit of revenue, ensuring compliance with GAAP and GAO statewide policies. Plan, assign, and coordinate the revenue collection and submission for the sale of licenses, permit tags, and watercraft registrations
- Reviews adjustments and/or corrections for statewide credit card transactions. Plan, review, collaborate, test, and closely work with complex information systems on internet based e-commerce applications.
- Address customer disputes by researching and resolving any discrepancies through refunds or charge-backs. Compose correspondence dealing with subject matter requiring considerable discretion, negotiation and tact
- Provide consultative services, managerial guidance and administrative expertise to personnel including maintaining Point of Sale System (Counterpoint)
- Cross training and backup in other areas of Accounting including but not limited to daily warrant reconciliation,requisition analysis and approval, and fixed asset entry

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
The candidate must have knowledge of/in: economic and accounting principles and practices; the analysis and reporting of financial data; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); comprehensive knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of government accounting; Internal control structures, and fiscal management; considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of automated financial systems; comprehensive knowledge of reference materials such as federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, applicable agency manuals, and policies and procedures; financial research methodologies.
Candidate must be skilled in analysis, interpretation and communication of financial data, detailed work with accuracy and speed, perform accounting functions and broad administrative support functions, monitoring accounting requirements and deadlines, compose a wide variety of complex inquiries concerning the progress of accounting functions, and in providing advice regarding proper procedures, respond to the Agency needs with tact, diplomacy and in an appropriate timely manner with strong interpersonal skills in responding to customer’s inquiries.
The candidate must be able to: learn and apply the Department’s policies and procedures, establish priorities and work with minimal supervision, problem solve, and to maintain a harmonious working relationship with all levels of the Department staff and external customers and maintain confidentiality.
The preferred candidate will have experience in governmental accounting, APP or AZ360 and CGFM preferred.
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Bachelor degree in accounting or a closely related field is required. The candidate must have at least two years of experience as an Accountant 1,2 or equivalent.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
