Under direction of the Assistant Director (AD), the WMD Coordinator serves as the Executive Staff Officer to the AD of the Wildlife Management Division. This position acts on behalf of the AD and serves as acting as needed, carrying out all aspects of his/her duties including those of a confidential or critical nature. May serves as an alternate for AD or Branch Chief on national and international level coordination on projects and programs and negotiates outcomes on behalf of the Division and Department.

Job Duties:

This position supervises and oversees the International Borderlands, and WAFWA grassland coordination Provides representation and guidance at Executive Team level and represents the AD at Executive Staff, regional or program meetings, public meetings, briefings and other situations as needed. Serves as the Division point of contact for HR related issues and day-to-day operations. Provides leadership and coordination for statewide implementation of WMD programs, including Legislative functions, and serves as the project leader for Operational and Implementation Planning. Lead and conduct special assignments or high level teams (as assigned) for Department initiatives, such as public affairs and marketing strategies, federal lands management and communication strategies, and revenue diversification. Serves as the Arizona Management System (AMS) champion for the division and oversees implementation of all phases. Provides Commission process support to staff on Commission directed actions. Serves as a lead for the development and oversight of annual Department budgets, preparing branch and regional budgets, developing budget requests and allocations, resolving issues and concerns. May assist other branches as requested, in the review and development of Department rules, policies and strategies and may serve in an advisor, team member or leader role. Responsible for interpreting policies and procedures, reviewing and analyzing various external policies from state and federal agencies and communicating these to the Executive Team. Negotiates directly with other state, local, and federal agencies and reviews and approves documents with delegated authority of the AD. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The candidate will have knowledge of/skill in: Department and Division mission, goals and objectives; wildlife management principles and application; Arizona Management System, federal and state environmental compliance, Title 17 and Commission process; natural resource and wildlife, watercraft and off-highway vehicle recreation planning (strategic, operational and implementation); programmatic design; and state and federal wildlife, off-highway vehicle, watercraft and land-use policies, laws and regulations; budget development and administration; strategic, operational, implementation and tactical planning; public policy; supervision; leadership; delegation.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will have skill in: communication; public speaking; outreach; multitasking; prioritizing; Microsoft Office suite; needs assessment analysis.

The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in wildlife management or a related field from an accredited college or university and at least three years of experience as a supervisory manager of a Department program. Skill in budget development, strategical operational planning and executive level consultation/coordination is highly desired.

Must be current AZGFD employee.

This position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.
