The ideal candidates will have an understanding of and experience in using Motivational Interviewing, case management, and program tracking. COIII’s will be required to deliver programs and training to offenders, interact with residents, assist residents with resources, and track information and statistics. Schedules are subject to non-traditional hours and days and will include evening and weekend work. This position requires staff that has the ability to adapt to change quickly and is flexible and balanced in their approach to offender management.

*Positions in this classification are eligible for an educational stipend: Associates Degree: 2.5%; Bachelor's Degree: 5%; Master's Degree or above: 7.5%. If you have completed one of these degrees, submit the Education Supplement-Security form Education Supplement and documentation of your degree as noted on the form with your application. If eligible and appointed, the stipend amount will be effective the date of your appointment. Education requests submitted after the date of appointment are effective at the beginning of the pay period they are received in personnel. This stipend is subject to available funding and may be cancelled at any time.
Works under general supervision from a Project Manager (PM) or Center Administrator. Serves as the intake point of contact for new arrivals to the Reentry Center. Schedule meeting with offenders as needed; evaluate and recommend program review; conclude and make recommendations on all offender participation and amenability to remain in the center. Coordinates, recommends and facilitates recreation, self-improvement programs, and rehabilitation; conducts reentry activities to transition offenders from supervision to community; reviews/provides recommendations on treatment programs, educational programs and parole programs. Documents issues, progress, history and maintains case log/Arizona Correctional Information System (ACIS) records; OMS records.
Individual positions may be responsible for some or all of the listed duties and/or other related duties. Perform operational caseload management to include: receives, compiles and summarizes into ACIS and other designated locations the Resident’s relevant documentation; Facilitating orientation and intakes for new residents; conducts interviews to review information received and collect additional information from the resident regarding, placement restrictions/precautions Do Not House With (DNHW), Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), etc.; Assist residents with housing, AHCCCS, AZ ID/DL card, SS card and birth certificates; Managing MRT referrals; Connecting residents with community partners; Responsible for tracking and coordinating clothing donations; Coordinating with the Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) and providing supervision of the program; Coordinating volunteer opportunities in the community; and Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of: principles and practices of social or correctional casework and facilitation. Principles and practices of classification, treatment, custody and parole. Principles and practices of interpersonal communication, dynamics of human behavior, crisis intervention and Inmate Classification System. Practices and methods of compiling and maintaining case histories, summaries and records. Practices and methods of security techniques and discipline systems and programs of an institution. Practices and methods of a variety of recreation/activities such as indoor and outdoor sports, games, arts and crafts, group social activities, and health and physical education. Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing inmates.
Skill in/Ability to: methods and techniques of correctional casework, interpersonal relationships, rehabilitation and crisis intervention. Applying and coordinating procedures of classification within treatment, custodial and parole leave. Methods and techniques of security and discipline programs of an institution. Methods and practices of developing and implementing recreation/activities. Verbal and written communications as required by the work activities in a correctional institution. Applying the Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing inmates. Providing guidance, direction and crisis intervention in a timely and productive manner; functioning as liaison in providing interactive services and assisting residents with personal, educational and career goals; preparing and maintaining files and records in the prescribed manner; serving as a program coordinator of residents; incentive and rehabilitation programs.
WORK CONDITIONS: Shift work; extended sitting; extensive reading and writing. Some light lifting with occasional heavy demands. May be exposed to hazards associated with security and guidance of inmates.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR TRANSFER: Employees must currently be a Correctional Officer III with Arizona Department of Corrections, have worked a minimum of 12 months at current division/institution, and received at least a meets expectations overall rating on most recent performance evaluation.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION – Must receive a rating of meets expectations or better.
SUSPENSION – Suspension during one year prior to announcement, ineligible for one promotional cycle.
DEMOTION – Ineligible to apply for two years from date of demotion.

Some positions require a medical/physical evaluation, psychological examination, pre-employment drug screening, and a background investigation prior to appointment. A current Arizona driver's license appropriate to the assignment is required at the time of appointment. As a condition of continued employment, employees in a safety sensitive position may be subject to random drug testing, as required by Department Policy.
Selected candidates must successfully complete the seven-week Correctional Officer Training Academy and graduate from a one-week Correctional Officer III Academy. The Correctional Officer III Academy may be completed after graduation from the Correctional Officer Training Academy during the first three-months of employment.
