Job Summary:

Join our team at the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), General Services Division (GSD), as a Lead Building Engineer, where you will take the helm of a highly capable maintenance team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in overseeing planned and reactive maintenance, managing emergency repairs, and handling various projects and special events, ensuring compliance with all State and Federal codes and regulations. Job Duties:
  • Supports and backs up maintenance supervisor on executing and monitoring strategic plans for cross-functional maintenance activities
  • Oversees performance of projects and special events activities; ensures communication is cascaded to maintenance staff and reports operational deficiencies to management
  • Supports and gives oversight to trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating and cooling in effectively executing work safely and efficiently
  • Ensures that all tasks and projects meet or exceed established KPIs and continue to improve on established measurements to make tasks and projects more efficient while increasing safety
  • Ensures that customers and management are well informed on current activities that have significant impact on State assets or operations
  • Ensures that work performed complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and State directives related to building operations and work safety
  • Inspects building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities
  • This position is responsible for implementing and driving continuous quality improvements for the Unit
  • Works with Safety Coordinator to ensure all maintenance staff are current on any training that is pertinent to their job requirements
  • Inspects and monitors safety procedures including the use of safety equipment, operating equipment, hazardous materials handling and use of state supplied uniforms
  • Participate in all HSE-related programs & activities as required, including incident investigations, interviews, auditing and assessment, etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of facilities operations, maintenance and management
  • Construction principles, methods, techniques
  • Current applicable building and construction codes
  • Statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to areas of assigned responsibility
  • State contacts, procurement practices, CMMS, EMS, and current building management systems
  • Strong understanding of commercial plumbing, electrical, electronic systems, and HVAC systems

Skills in:

  • Personnel administration related to hiring, training, monitoring performance and discipline
  • Practical application of the principles and practices of facilities operations, maintenance and supervision
  • Interpretation of blueprints and schematics
  • Interpretation and application of current building and construction codes
  • Develop and maintain interpersonal relationships
  • Effective written and oral communication; analysis and problem solving

Ability to:

  • Develop and implement effective and cost efficient preventive maintenance programs
  • Lead skilled trades engaged in corrective and preventive work to include electrical, mechanical, HVAC, sheet- rock, plumbing
  • Use a computer and Windows based and other computer software
  • Effectively use computerized work order management and energy management systems
  • Work independently and in a team environment; to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
Selective Preference(s):
  • Five years previous building operations engineering experience preferred
