This role addresses current and expanding critical operational vulnerabilities within the Traffic Management Group by offering cross-functional support across essential areas of the Traffic Operations Trainer and coordinator trainer of new employees, Traffic Management Event Coordinator/Digital Messaging System. Under Dispatch Management guidance, will be a TOC systems operator. Utilizing (CAD, ERS, CCTV, DMS, radio) to monitor, verify, and disseminate traffic incidents statewide, ensuring timely public and agency notifications. Spanning multiple functions, the specialist ensures operational continuity during times of heightened operational activity. Serves as a backup role in absences, retirements, or departures; preventing
disruptions in key services safeguarding communications during emergencies supporting emergency response efforts. Assisting in the overall efficiency and readiness of the Traffic Management Group. Occasional travel may be necessary for program-related duties.
Ensures uninterrupted communication and operations within the TOC during staff absences or emergencies. Responsibilities include analyzing real-time
traffic data, managing digital messaging, and coordinating with traffic teams, responders, and agencies. Monitors traffic, identifies incidents, and initiates responses to reduce congestion. Supports TOC, IRU, Wrong Way Detection, Dust Detection, I-10 Truck Parking, and I-17 Flex Lanes.
Backup role, review statewide emergency/non-emergency traffic control plans, Dynamic Message Sign programming, and ERS/AZ511 with statewide work groups. Coordination for unforeseen/last-minute DMS messages, timely updates, provide coverage during staff absences, supports business practices operating procedures, reinforcing operational stability and maintaining the integrity of statewide traffic messaging/communication systems.
maintaining and enhancing training programs, developing ongoing training opportunities, and adapting to unit needs through workshops, on line courses, and other methods, ensures new trainee is in compliance with all training curriculum. Other duties as assigned as related to the position
-Valid Arizona Driver's License.
-ACJIS Certification through Arizona DPS is required.
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
