The Department of Economic Security, Division of Benefits and Medical Eligibility is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Benefits and Eligibility Supervisor in our Client Liaison Unit. This position supervises, plans and coordinates the operations of a program of one or more benefits and eligibility units involved in the determination and issuance of public assistance and is responsible for effective supervision and administration of the divisions eligibility program(s) staff to include staff development and training, succession planning, performance management, and related activities, and works with other managers and staff to evaluate and implement goals, responsibilities, policies and procedures of the division.

Job Duties:

Essential duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and adjust workloads. Implement regulations or policy changes affecting the day-to-day operation of the unit.
  • Assists staff with difficult and complex cases to include providing consultation with employees, handling some cases personally, making decisions on controversial cases and consulting with senior management on recommended actions.
  • Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of services delivered; identify and resolve existing and potential problems according to agency policies and program goals and objectives. Compile and review statistical data associated with unit activities from case records, logs, computer files, and other sources and prepare requested reports.
  • Conduct quality control and error management and prevention in eligibility services program(s) to include conducting case reviews, evaluating accuracy, timeliness and productivity utilizing quality and quantity data from program reports, identifies error trends, implements corrective action plans, develops, and conducts related training.
  • Evaluates staffing needs, participates on hiring panels and makes recommendations for effective use of personnel resources.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Program services used to conduct quality control reviews.
  • Interviewing and assessment techniques.
  • Customer service practices.
  • Program development, administration, and service delivery related to the program or programs in the area of responsibility, which may include employment services, eligibility, provider and/or social services.

Skills in:

  • Written and verbal communication to explain and interpret Federal and State laws, statutes, rules, regulations, and guidelines applicable to the area of assignment.

Ability to:

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal management and staff, and with a variety of external stakeholders.
  • Identify, analyze, and evaluate situations or problems to determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Analyze laws, regulations, and policies to ensure all programs and activities are in compliance.
Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Three (3) years’ experience performing eligibility work.

Retirement:

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
