Under the direction of the Accounts Payable Supervisor, this position is responsible for the timely and accurate accounting, reconciling, and reporting of additions, deletions, transfers, adjustments and disposals of the Department’s capitalized and non-capitalized assets, profiles and reporting.
The position will be performing all aspects of professional accounting work to support the Department's mission and the expenditures of the Agency, including the wildlife, watercraft, and off-highway vehicle resources of the State of Arizona and to all staff that contribute to the Department's mission.
-Records additions, deletions, UTL’s, use taxes, adjustments and disposals of the Department’s capitalized and non-capitalized assets, including costing out new assets ensuring appropriate cost accounting elements are allocated
-Prepares transfer documents (FMs) and updates assets in the state’s accounting system.
-Reviews and conducts reconciliations of complex fixed and capital assets including land and building improvements, catchments, and major construction projects
-Interprets, analyzes and approves requisitions for determination of proper asset classification
-Prepares specialty reports as needed in responses to audits, monthly reconciliations, depreciation
-Reviews procedures and makes recommendations for process improvements including, training, coordination and completion of annual inventory
-Support all Accounting functions including but not limited to accounts payable and accounts receivable
-May serve as a team leader to others doing the same type of work
-Performs other duties as assigned
The candidate must have knowledge of/in: economic and accounting principles and practices; the analysis and reporting of financial data; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); comprehensive knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of government accounting; Internal control structures, and fiscal management; considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of automated financial systems; comprehensive knowledge of reference materials such as federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, applicable agency manuals, and policies and procedures; financial research methodologies.
Candidate must be skilled in analysis, interpretation and communication of financial data, detailed work with accuracy and speed, perform accounting functions and broad administrative support functions, monitoring accounting requirements and deadlines, compose a wide variety of complex inquiries concerning the progress of accounting functions, and in providing advice regarding proper procedures, respond to the Agency needs with tact, diplomacy and in an appropriate timely manner with strong interpersonal skills in responding to customer’s inquiries.
The candidate must be able to: learn and apply the Department’s policies and procedures, establish priorities and work with minimal supervision, self-starter with process improvement focused on technology driven resources, problem solve, and to maintain a harmonious working relationship with all levels of the Department staff and external customers and maintain confidentiality.
The preferred candidate will have experience in governmental accounting, APP or AZ360.
Bachelor degree in accounting or a closely related field is required. The candidate must have at least two years of experience as an Accountant 1,2 or equivalent.
