Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), Division of Business and Finance, seeks a skilled Accountant II to deliver professional accounting services for the Health Insurance Trust and Employee Benefits Trust funds. In this vital role, you will manage the full cycle of accounts receivable, including meticulous recording and tracking of billings and adjustments, as well as the preparation and entry of daily cash receipts, encompassing the opening and logging of incoming checks, creation of daily CR files, and scanning checks for deposit. Your responsibilities will also extend to processing account vendor payments and performing essential daily, bi-weekly, and monthly reconciliations. As a collaborative team member, you will take on a leadership role by guiding and mentoring accounting interns. Also process updates to HRIS for active members. Job Duties:
  • Process daily cash receipts to includes wires, interface files for CR docs, opening and logging checks and scanning to Chase Bank. Also responsible for the daily activities on the payment website
  • Create and upload daily new customer/address changes input into AZ360 and process vendor name changes
  • Process updates to HRIS for active members making payments by updating spreadsheet and database. Prepare weekly AMRA/DCRA update and send data to central payroll for them to update HRIS. Then prepare deposit for active members/LWOP
  • Reconciles internal worksheets, schedules and reports against AZ360 records to validate the accuracy of the related statements or reports. Includes one time deduction reconciliation, credit card reconciliation, monthly premium packet
  • Prepare payments for vendors and internal transfers between state agencies on a daily basis as high priority payments. Transfers include ASRS, Employee Assistance Program(EAP), Surviving Spouse (SPP) and IET expenditure corrections. Payments includes refunds to customers
  • Check the group HITF e-mail box and manage communications as well as working tickets in ServiceNow
  • Act as lead for accounting intern positions by helping train them
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Advanced governmental and financial accounting principles and theory (FASB, GASB)
  • Use of the AZ360 accounting system
  • Reconciliation procedures
  • Acquisition, disposal, and depreciation methods for fixed assets
  • Accrual, cash, and Fund (modified accrual) based accounting
  • Office methods, procedures, and equipment
  • Department of Administration rules and regulations
  • Database structures or other applications necessary to use and modify data

Skills in:

  • Math at a college level: ratio analysis, amortization calculations, variance analysis, cost of goods sold calculations, and multivariable problem-solving
  • Oral and written communications
  • Operation of computers and software applications
  • Analyzing and interpreting ADOA policy and procedures
  • Work management, time management, and organization
  • Analysis and interpretation of financial data to support judgments and decisions
  • Work techniques necessary to maintain accounting records in automated accounting systems
  • Interpersonal, group, and team-building skills

Ability to:

  • Merge both knowledge and skill within a dynamic environment to produce a wide variety of accounting specialties within the confines of a single position
Selective Preference(s):
  • Experience working in the State accounting environment
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • Background and reference check, including a criminal records verification
