Job Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting the Accounting Specialist Unit with technical tasks such as approving claims, training staff, auditing the claims specialist's work, working difficult claims, creating reports, etc.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:
  • Assist in resolving difficult claims which includes research and analysis of data from provider invoices, case manager records, Guardian and other sources. Initiate requests via mail, phone, fax and other approved department methods for assistance in resolving payment barriers.
  • Assist with provider account reconciliation and communicating end result with providers. Assist field staff and providers in determining payment status, problem resolution and providing information as needed.
  • Complete quality assurance reviews to determine if accounts were paid accurately and timely. Prepare monthly reports for management.
  • Review "pending approval" claims and approve/deny as appropriate. Follow-up with accounting specialists when claims are denied.
  • Provide training to accounting specialists as needed and directed by the supervisor. Attend meetings and trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
  • Federal and State laws, statutes and regulations relating to payment processing
  • Guardian computer system
  • Accounting methods and techniques
  • Check/warrant processing
  • Office procedures and equipment, including Microsoft Suite

Skills in:

  • Analyzing, researching and interpreting fiscal data
  • Verifying billings/claims
  • Mathematics
  • Verbal and written communication

Ability to:

  • Analyze and resolve issues
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments
  • Work in a fast paced environment
  • Provide professional and effective customer service techniques
  • Apply agency and state policies and procedures
Selective Preference(s):

Accounting and customer service experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Ability to maintain and secure clearance from the DCS Central Registry
