Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of a Lieutenant, the Administrative Training Sergeant has the authority to approve actions and/or resolve administrative issues and functions in a defined area of responsibilities. Reviews and approves reports of subordinates for accuracy and compliance, delegates tasks and responsibilities as needed, promotes a transparent working environment and ensures that all areas of operations are functioning properly and efficiently. Maintains fiscal responsibility for their designated area. Tasked with developing and administering a state-wide training program for employee development. Oversees special projects and groups, coordinates department field training programs, assists department staff with individual training plans and makes recommendations for training. Ensures compliance with the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) continuing and/or proficiency training. Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records of the work performed and training hours; prepares clear and concise reports to monitor the success of the training program; creates related written materials. background check and in and out of State travel is required.

Job Duties:

Directs subordinates ensuring safety of all operational personnel and the general public, promotes enforcement of state and federal laws, rules and
regulations. Plans, organizes and coordinates all activities within the area of responsibility to ensure all goals and objectives are being met. Examine all
operations and programs assessing effectiveness. Delivers sworn proficiency training in areas such as firearms, defensive tactics, tactical driving, field training, and other required or elective training programs.
Assists in developing instructional training objectives based on subject matter expertise by researching information and evaluating curriculum for currency and trends. Design training materials, handouts, lesson plans, and audiovisual presentation materials. Adapts existing training materials to meet instructional objectives. Designs and creates comprehensive training delivery methods considering the context of the student group and the training curriculum. Identify training needs and opportunities; schedule training events, plans, oversees, coordinates department field training programs to include developing, implementing, teaching training curriculum statewide. Assists in identifying and resolving problems related to training issues. Counsels, instructs, trains and evaluates subordinates in proper work methods and requirements; reviews work of subordinates, remains informed of their performance, ensures compliance to required duties; makes planner entries and reviews performance progress with subordinates; schedules and assigns work to subordinates. Evaluates training officers, training specialists, personnel analysts or other personnel engaged in planning, coordinating, conducting and evaluating employee development programs. Tracks employee training hours; updates and maintains training records through PowerDMS Coordinate and research multiple division projects operations with all levels of management. Supervising special projects and groups, creating documents, spreadsheets and briefs to be presented to Leadership.

Selective Preference(s):

Minimum of 4-years experience as a Sergeant. Certified instructor in the following areas: Physical Fitness, TASER and Defensive Tactics. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in police administration, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field is desirable; additional experience as a law enforcement manager or graduate of the FBI National
Academy.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Requires Arizona POST General Instructor certification.
  • Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Full Authority certification.
  • Weapons certified in accordance with AZ P.O.S.T. standards. 
  • Arizona Post Firearms Certification.
  • Valid driver's license.

As this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
