Job Summary:

Under the general supervisor of the Department of Child Safety Service Approval Program Manager, this position manages Program Service Evaluators and Program Project Specialists, in the statewide Service Approval Unit. Assigns work and evaluates performance of subordinates. Interacts regularly with Regional staff from multiple departments providing technical assistance and expertise, gathers information, solves problems, and improves procedures.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:
  • Provides management, oversight, and day-to-day direction and follows statewide practices. Manages teams that provide support and services to Regional staff for out of home placement service requests. Follows established policies and procedures and is responsible for the timeliness, accuracy, quality of work products for service approvals for out of home placement requests. Monitors unit dashboard. Assigns work and evaluates performance of subordinates. Monitors and evaluates outcomes. Completes monthly quality assurance review. Prepares and submits weekly metrics. Reviews monthly standard work to ensure continuity of workload due to vacancies, leave and absences.
  • Assists with interviews, hiring and training staff. Evaluates employee performance of direct reports. Meets with employees monthly to discuss performance. Completes thorough appraisal documentation. Initiates discipline actions when necessary; and approves leave time and time sheets.
  • Serves as the Liaison for the Service Approvals Unit to resolve problems and questions presented by direct reports, internal and external customers.
  • Attends training and management meetings. Participates in work teams/groups. Facilitates weekly huddle meetings and other meetings as requested. May serve as acting Program Manager as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Knowledge of:

  • Federal and state laws, regulations and directives governing child protective services
  • Conflict resolution techniques
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Guardian
  • DCS business processes as it relates to Services and Payments

Selective Preference(s):

The preferred candidate will have DCS supervisor experience and knowledge of service approval process in Guardian.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

The ability to secure and maintain clearance from the DCS Central Registry.
