Would you like to be part of an amazing team that helps ASRS excel? The Internal Audit Division strengthens the governance, risk, and control process and provides assurance, advisory, and other value-added services to ASRS.
This position is responsible for work that ranges from routine to moderately complex. It may include sensitive and/or confidential information. Its primary focus is to provide assurance services to functional areas of the ASRS. This position will be responsible for performing risk-based audits of ASRS’ operational environment, as well as other assurance and assessment activities as required. Additionally, the position may perform compliance audits of our employer members to provide assurance that they and we are in compliance with applicable statutes, administrative rules, policies, and procedures.
The general principles that this position will enjoin are to:
• Proactively implement internal audit engagements;
• Exercise good judgment and effective diplomatic and negotiation skills when engaging with agency managers and peers;
• Participate in audit planning and special projects;
• Help ASRS management balance their agency strategy with appropriate risk management and internal control mitigation strategies;
• Contribute to the implementation and communication of Internal Audit's missions, goals, and strategies; and,
• Interact with legal counsel, external consultants, and internal risk management groups as required.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely based upon the department’s business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
• Possess some institutional knowledge of the ASRS pension plan, processes, applicable state statutes, administrative rules, policies, and procedures
• Relevant audit industry standards: IIA/IPPF, COSO frameworks, and related principles
• Familiarity with governance, risk, and control concepts, and evaluating and testing internal controls
• Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Microsoft Office skills (Excel and Word)
• Data analytics usage in internal audit engagements
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

The ideal candidate will have 3 years of audit experience, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting, management, or other a related field. Have or are in the process of obtaining a relevant professional certification like CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE.
